Pure Color Relationship Series

The idea of this series is to explore one single oil color on canvas and get to know that color simply and purely in its values from light to dark without the addition of any other color, not even white. I try to choose genuine earth pigments because of their purity.

The word “relationship” has more than one meaning here. As I relate to the painted color, a totemic center evolves to celebrate that particular hue. Applied pieces of patinated copper plate, copper wire, encaustic and found objects make up the central image. Some show a Zen influence; some are reminiscent of Native American artifacts. Each piece has a relationship with the other and the series was painted with the idea to be shown as multiples.
